According to an article published by Naija News, the Specialist Crime Team of the UK Metropolitan Police detained Ekweremadu and his wife when they were in London.
The Metropolitan Police Department issued a statement on Thursday confirming that the two individuals were involved in a conspiracy to arrange the passage of a child to the county for the purpose of organ harvesting from the minor.
Following an investigation by the police department's special crime division, the two individuals have reportedly been charged with crimes and will be appearing in court.
The police further stated that the inquiry was initiated when investigators in May 2022 were made aware of probable violations of modern slavery regulations. This information led to the commencement of the investigation.

The following is an excerpt from the statement that was released: "Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66), of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the flight of another person with the intention of exploitation, specifically organ harvesting."

In a conversation on Wednesday with members of the media, an Enugu politician admitted that Obi is a credible candidate and that he is from the South East, but that he lacks the mass appeal necessary to win elections.
According to Ekweremadu, the former governor of Anambra State cannot win the presidential election in 2023, and the South East cannot afford to waste their votes on a candidate who cannot win.
